How we helped Wimbledon run smoothly

The Wimbledon Tennis Championships is one of the world’s most famous and prestigious sporting events. The championship is hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) in London and can trace its history back to 1877, making it the oldest tennis tournament in the world.

At Stuart Canvas, we have proudly served and helped the Championship to run smoothly for over 30 years.  2022 marked Centre Courts’ 100th Anniversary, and our team was in attendance during the championship fortnight to ensure all the Stuart Canvas Supplied equipment was in pristine condition and ready to be utilised by the army of well-trained and passionate grounds team at Wimbledon.

The most recognised piece of Stuart Canvas equipment used in Wimbledon is the green rain covers that are un-rolled at a moments notice as soon as a British summer day turns wet. The covers are manufactured in-house using specialist material that allows sunlight through without burning the grass while remaining waterproof.  The famous Wimbledon logo is bespoke hand printed on each cover.  The covers can also be inflated to a height which allows ground staff to carry on maintaining the grass court underneath the cover.

During the championship fortnight, the Wimbledon venue is transformed, and each of the outer grass courts is supplied with Championship nets/posts and umpire chairs. A perimeter fence with green netting fitted to custom steel work is fitting to each court, this helps separate each court and create safe areas for spectators. This is fitted weeks in advance of the first member of the public entering the 42 acre site.

At Stuart Canvas, we understand the need for attention to detail and offer service at the highest level. The Wimbledon Championships are executed immaculately every year with the smallest element being given the attention it needs to create a truly unique sporting event.  All the team at Stuart Canvas are proud to watch Wimbledon every year, knowing that our manufactured products and on-site teams seamlessly integrate into the prestigious world of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
