Stuart Canvas has recently in been involved in the renovation of the historic Shambles Market in York, the well-renowned market consisting of over 70 stalls is based near the famous Tudor Shambles Street in York and is the largest outdoor market in the city, attracting thousands of visitors every week. The market required a new covered walkway between the stalls along the ‘golden mile’ of section of the market, this would provide shelter for visitors to enjoy the marketing, by providing a waterproof cover during the winter and a sunshade during the summer. Stuart Canvas created a bespoke high-grade PVC system that would securely fit to the existing structure allowing it to withstand harsh wind conditions. Each section of the canopy was designed with a large transparent section which would allow light through to avoid creating a dark area over the pedestrian walkway.
New custom printed gable ends where also installed on each section on the market stall structure, these create an attractive entrance to each part of the market with the Shamble logo bespoke printed on each end piece, these also help to add extra weather protection. As the market is a busy trading area 7 days a week at the heart of York, Stuart Canvas had to take an alternative approach to carry out the work need, each canopy section was custom made at the Stuart Canvas HQ in Warrington and then was transported and installed to the market overnight over a period of serval days as not to interfere with the day to day running of the market.
Shamble Market has recently undergone changes due to Covid-19, including implementing a one-way system and a reconfiguration of the layout of the stalls to improve the flow of customers and minimise disruption to traders, allowing the market to re-open as of the 15th June
Stuart Canvas can manufacture and install a wide range of bespoke canopies and covering systems throughout the UK.
