Protecting Cricket Practice at Emirates Old Trafford...
Introduction: The UK is known for its unpredictable weather, meaning cricket clubs face a constant challenge: how to...
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) recently announced a partnership with Criced Cymru (Cricket Wales) to improve cricket facilities for the Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire areas.
This new partnership includes the creation of a brand new three-bay cricket net practice and training facility at the University Carmarthen campus Sports Centre. This facility will be used by Students Cricket Wales’ coach education programmes and the local community.
UWTSD approached to Stuart Canvas to design the new facilities. We were able to produce a complete end-to-end service from the first concept to the installation, including our own designed ceiling-mounted tracking, built-in end sight screens and wall mounted storage pouches for the nets when not in use.
The netting system features an integrated celling net that stretches the full length of the hall, this prevents damage to the roofing of the hall when the side netting is deployed. It also prevents balls from becoming stuck in the netting which is a common issue with older style systems. Each lane has built-in sightscreens on both the back and side ends to aid the bowler & batter. We used our heavy-grade netting which is designed to absorb the high impact of a cricket ball creating a safe area for both players and coaches.
In a recent article featured for the Criced Cymru (Cricket Wales); The University of Wales Trinity Saint David Head of Technical Services, Cenwyn Jones said:
“It’s been a pleasure to be part of the project that brings excellent indoor cricket training facilities to our campus in Carmarthen providing our students as well as the local community with the opportunity to train and develop their cricket skills throughout the year regardless of the weather.
There are currently very few indoor training facilities available locally, therefore this new facility enhances the sporting opportunities available to our students, the wider community and possibly even young cricket stars of the future.” Quote from Cricket Wales – source https://cricketwales.org.uk/news/uwtsd-and-cricket-wales-join-forces
